Drake’s romantic memories are intertwined with the iconic sounds of the Backstreet Boys, and he recently shared a heartwarming story about his first kiss that left the legendary boy band feeling nostalgic. In a captivating interview with Billboard, the Backstreet Boys revealed that the Canadian rapper once confided in them that he experienced his first kiss while one of their beloved tracks played in the background.
Kevin Richardson, a member of the group, recounted this memorable moment from their DNA Tour, which included a stop in Toronto, Drake’s hometown. While dining at a restaurant favored by the rapper, the band was approached by the maître d’, who informed them that Drake was eager to meet them.
Richardson, now 54, reminisced about how Drake shared a touching story about his first kiss happening to the tune of their classic hit “I Want It That Way.” This revelation led to a special moment during their Toronto concert in 2022, where Drake was invited on stage and affectionately dubbed the “sixth member” of the group.
During the performance, Drake opened up to the audience, recalling a pivotal moment from his youth. “At 13 years old, I had a bar mitzvah, and for the first time, the girl I had a crush on came up to me while this incredible song was playing and asked me to dance,” he shared, as captured in fan footage from the event. He humorously added, “If she can see me now, you know what I’m talking about?”
As the Backstreet Boys gear up for their highly anticipated Las Vegas residency at Sphere this July, they promise to take fans on a nostalgic journey through their greatest hits. Meanwhile, the band has also released a new track titled “Bottle Up,” which serves as the theme for the upcoming Paw Patrol: The Dino movie.
