Amy Duggar King has opened up about a haunting confrontation with her cousin Josh Duggar, revealing details that continue to disturb her years after the family’s most notorious scandal.
Speaking with Fox News Digital while promoting her new memoir, Holy Disruptor, Amy reflected on the moment she came face-to-face with Josh following the revelation of abuse allegations that rocked the Duggar family and ultimately led to the cancellation of their hit reality series, 19 Kids and Counting.
According to Amy, she drove to her uncle Jim Bob Duggar’s home in 2015 determined to get answers. At the time, reports had surfaced alleging that Josh had molested several young girls, including some of his sisters, years earlier. Amy described herself as furious, heartbroken and desperate to understand how something so serious had been hidden from the family for so long.
She recalled Josh sitting quietly, avoiding eye contact and barely responding to her questions. After a tense silence, he finally looked up and admitted, “I knew better.” What happened next, however, left a lasting impression on Amy.
“He looked at me right into my eyes and said, ‘I knew better,’ and it was the creepiest smile I’ve ever seen,” she said.
In her book, Amy describes the expression as a chilling grin that sent shivers down her spine. She wrote that it felt like a glimpse into a future filled with pain, chaos and heartbreak for the entire family. The moment remains one of the most unsettling experiences of her life.
Amy also recalled feeling frustrated by how the situation was handled within the family. She claimed that during the confrontation, Jim Bob Duggar entered the room and appeared more concerned about maintaining peace than addressing the seriousness of the allegations. For Amy, it was a moment that highlighted the deep divisions that would later emerge within the family.
The reality television personality said she and her mother had no prior knowledge of the accusations before they became public. Learning about the allegations through media reports left them shocked and devastated. Amy explained that she spent years participating in family events and television productions without any idea of what had allegedly taken place behind closed doors.
The scandal changed her outlook on life, trust and parenting. Amy said she has become far more cautious about who she allows into her inner circle and is deeply committed to educating children about abuse, boundaries and personal safety. She believes difficult conversations are necessary to protect future generations.
Josh Duggar is currently serving a federal prison sentence after being convicted on charges related to child sexual abuse material. His legal troubles, combined with the earlier abuse allegations, have continued to cast a shadow over the Duggar family’s public image.
Today, Amy admits her relationship with many members of the Duggar family remains strained. While she still cares about her relatives, she says establishing boundaries has been essential for her peace of mind. Despite the distance, she hopes her cousins will continue questioning harmful beliefs and make decisions that allow them to live fuller, healthier lives.
Through her memoir and recent interviews, Amy Duggar is once again speaking candidly about the pain, confusion and lasting impact of one of reality television’s most controversial family scandals.
