Joseph Duggar and his wife, Kendra Duggar, sparked controversy after details from a private jail phone call surfaced while the former reality TV star continues to face serious criminal charges in Florida.
According to the reported 20-minute conversation, Joseph told Kendra he had developed a strict fitness routine while being held behind bars. The former Counting On star said he was staying active inside his small jail cell by doing squats, push-ups, and dips using the edge of his bed. Joseph joked that he hoped the workouts would help him “trim up” during his time in custody.
Kendra appeared to respond lightheartedly, saying she also felt slimmer and joking that she was becoming a “skinny mini.” Despite the playful exchange, she admitted she had been struggling physically and emotionally, revealing that stress had affected her appetite and left her feeling weak.
The couple also discussed faith during the call. Joseph said reading the Bible had helped him cope with anxiety and encouraged Kendra to do the same. He described feeling more hopeful after spending time in prayer and scripture, while Kendra praised the support she had received from members of the Duggar family during the difficult period.
The conversation eventually turned emotional, with Kendra expressing sympathy for her husband’s situation and saying she hoped they would emerge stronger from the ordeal. Joseph replied that the experience was teaching them to rely more heavily on their faith.
The call comes amid ongoing legal troubles for Joseph. He was arrested in March 2026 over allegations involving a minor and later extradited to Florida, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. He was subsequently released on a $600,000 bond under conditions that restrict unsupervised contact with minors.
Meanwhile, Joseph and Kendra are also facing separate charges in Arkansas related to child welfare and false imprisonment allegations. The couple, who share four children, are expected to return to court as the legal proceedings continue.
