That finally changed during CMA Fest in Nashville.
Before the pair took the stage together for a surprise performance, McGraw revealed that he had recently learned about the letter Wilson wrote years ago. Feeling bad that he never saw it, he decided to do something nobody expected.
He wrote her back.
Not just a quick note, either.
McGraw told Wilson he wrote the response as if he had actually received her letter all those years ago. Handing her the envelope, he explained that this was what he would have said to the young girl who was desperately chasing her country music dreams.
Wilson immediately became emotional.
“You’re going to make me cry,” she told him before joking that he better not ruin her makeup. She also admitted that her parents would never believe what was happening.
