A devastating accident in Santa Barbara County has claimed the lives of five teenagers, leaving one in critical condition. Juana Galvez, mother of 17-year-old Yusbeli ‘Ava’ Diaz, expressed her profound sorrow in a heartfelt Facebook message. Ava, a student at Pioneer Valley High School, was taken to the hospital where she fought valiantly for her life for about an hour before succumbing to her injuries.
“She was a loving, kind-hearted teen who brought joy to everyone around her,” Galvez shared, highlighting the immense loss her family is grappling with.
Another victim of this tragic event was identified as Isabella “Bella” Vigil, just 16 years old. Angela Vigil, a relative, launched an online fundraiser to honor Bella’s memory, stating, “It is with shattered hearts that we share the tragic and unexpected loss of our beloved Bella, who passed away at just 16 years old following a horrific car accident.”
Kenny Klein, a spokesperson for the Santa Maria school district, confirmed that Ava was among the students from the district affected by this tragedy. He noted that none of the deceased were scheduled to participate in the upcoming high school graduation ceremonies. Counseling services will be available to support grieving students and families throughout the week.
In addition to Ava and Bella, a fourth victim attended Maple Continuation High School in the Lompoc Unified School District, further deepening the sorrow felt across the community.
