In a heartbreaking turn of events, the newborn daughter of a slain Arizona teenager has passed away just a week after her mother was fatally shot. Jariah Edwards, only 17 and 32 weeks pregnant, was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend, Trevon Williams, during a family vacation in San Diego on May 30.
According to prosecutors, Williams, 19, traveled for eight hours from Arizona to San Diego, using DoorDash orders to lure Jariah out of her AirBnB rental. Tragically, she was shot in the head, and despite immediate medical intervention, she did not survive. Doctors performed an emergency cesarean section in hopes of saving the baby, who initially fought for her life in critical condition at Rady Children’s Hospital.
Sadly, the newborn girl succumbed to her injuries, reportedly suffering from severe hypoxic brain damage due to oxygen deprivation. The San Diego Police Department expressed gratitude to the hospital staff for their tireless efforts to save the infant’s life.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Jariah’s family during this unimaginable time, with donations exceeding $11,000 toward a goal of $20,000. Friends and family have taken to social media to share their grief, with heartfelt tributes pouring in for the young mother. One mourner reflected, “Everywhere she went she was always spreading her light,” while another lamented, “Life will never be the same without you.”

Law enforcement was alerted to the shooting after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire in the Bay Park area. Officers arrived swiftly, finding Jariah with a critical gunshot wound. Williams was apprehended hours later after fleeing into Tecolote Canyon, armed but taken into custody without incident.

He has been charged with murder, attempted murder of a fetus, and possession of a machine gun with an extended magazine, to which he has pleaded not guilty. The motive for this tragic incident remains unclear, but police have indicated it stems from a history of domestic violence. Reports reveal that Jariah had recently blocked Williams on her phone and was seeking a restraining order against him.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Williams could face additional charges following the death of the infant, with the potential for severe penalties if convicted. The community mourns the loss of Jariah and her baby, leaving many to wonder how such a tragedy could occur.
