A Washington man is accused of killing his wife and then attempting to cover it up by staging a home invasion.

Kyle Cathcart is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his wife, Jodi, according to reports from KING 5KOMO and The Seattle Timesciting authorities.

Jodi was stabbed 48 times in the couple’s Covington, Wash., home on May 1, prosecutors said, per the Times and KING 5.

The paper reported that Cathcart allegedly called 911 and reported that he and his wife had been stabbed in a home invasion.

Per the report, Jodi was pronounced dead after being found in the bedroom, while Cathcart had minor wounds to the eye and abdomen.

But when police checked the home’s Ring camera, all three outlets reported, they saw a person in dark clothing exiting the home, but no footage of the person entering the home was found.

Prosecutors reportedly said that investigators noticed the person in the Ring camera footage was of the same height and build as Cathcart.

Citing police, the outlets reported that during an interview with investigators, Cathcart later allegedly confessed to killing his wife.

KING 5 and the Times both reported that Cathcart allegedly also told police that he tried to kill himself with the knife used to kill Jodi.

Prosecutors reportedly alleged that Cathcart killed his wife so she wouldn’t discover that he had lied about supposed incoming lawsuit money.

“Rather than simply ask for a divorce — if he was so deeply unhappy with his life — the defendant chose to stab/slice his wife at least 48 times, with his minor children just a few yards away and in easy listening range of the victim’s screams,” deputy prosecuting attorney Thomas O’Ban wrote in a charging document, per the Times.

It is not immediately clear if Cathcart has entered a plea. Jail records indicate that he is being held on $60 million bond.
